Camping Close to Home

At Campkin’s RV we are excited for the 2020 Camping Season to begin. We understand that this year is going to be different due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. The virus has delayed the opening of the season and you may want to camp a little closer to home this year. For this reason we want to highlight some great Campgrounds close to home. That way you do some great local camping trips safely and support our own economy at the same time. So be on the lookout for our Camping close to home series, to help you plan your 2020 RVing calendar.

1. Cedar Park Resort - This campground is located just North of Bowmanville ON. It is a great place for families looking for a weekend getaway. It includes a great Waterpark, minigolf, over 30 acres of open park space for that game of ladderball. There is a great snack bar, clean washrooms and laundry facilities as well. You could also take some time off visit beautiful downtown Bowmanville or the quaint village or Orono. For more details visit www.cedarparkresort.ca

2. Sandraska Park – Sandraska Park is located near Pontypool ON. It is connected to the Ganaraska Forest Trails so it is a popular campground for hiking the trails, or taking a dirtbike, or ATV for a ride. There are a lot of people with horses that use this campground as well, so if you go for a walk you can see some great horses. There is a salt water pool, large recreation
hall, and some great playgrounds as well. Then you could go for a short trip to the town of Pontypool and grab lunch from a local restaurant. For more information check it out at www.sandaraskapark.ca

3. Darlington Provincial Park – Located just south of the 401 in Courtice ON. This campground is a great place to experience nature. There are lots of electrical sites to choose from and the sites are large. You have a nice beach to visit and lots of trails to go for along nature walk. They also run nature programs during the day, and the kids can play for hours in the large park located in the day use area. Then for lunch you can drive 5 minutes away and hit up a local restaurant in Courtice, Oshawa or Bowmanville and support our local economy as well. 1. Balsam Lake Provincial Park – Located right on the Trent Severn waterway you and your family will love Balsam Lake provincial park. It is a great lake with a large Sandy Beach. You can rent Canoes and Kayaks or enjoy some of Ontario’s best fishing for Walleye or Small or Large Mouth Bass. If the land is more your thing, you can go for long hikes on the trials that go throughout the park or watch all the different Bird Species that make Balsam Lake their home. 1. Killbear Provincial Park – Located along the shoreline of Georgian Bay, you will love the natural beauty of this park. There are kilometres of forest covered hiking trails, beautiful sandy beaches, and fantastic sunsets over the water. This park is famous for the group of seven paintings of the windblown pines through out the park. While you are there you can go for a quick drive down the road and visit the town of Parry Sound. 2. Niagara Falls KOA – We have a world wonder only a couple of hours from home, “The Falls” is a must see. There is so much to do in Niagara Falls, but also lots to do at the Niagara Falls KOA. They have activities running all the time, from building your own ice cream Sunday, to outdoor movies and wagon rides. Your stay will top off with great campfires with the family and lots of fabulous memories. Ivy Lea Campground - Located in the heart of the majestic Thousand Islands (1000 Islands) and at the foot of the towering Thousand Islands Bridge, this jewel of the St. Lawrence Parks system offers 41 RV sites amid the granite and greenery of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve. Nearby attractions include Fort Henry, Boldt Castle, several boat tour operators and the picturesque Village of Rockport. Ivy Lea is located on the Thousand Islands Parkway, which is one of the most beautiful scenic drives in North America. The views at this park are incredible, and the fishing is pretty impressive too.
